Lush Charity Pot guidelines
We like to look after those who look after others. We are committed to supporting small, grassroots charities, non-violent direct action groups and other good causes working in following areas:-
- Environment
- Animals; welfare & rights
- People; human rights & humanitarian aid
Although these are our main areas of focus, any group, irrespective of their geographical location, field of expertise or how the organisation is registered, will be considered providing they:-
- Are not involved in any way with animal testing or any other practices harmful to animals;
- Are committed to non-violent action if a direct action group;
- Are environmentally responsible;
- Are respectful of human rights.
Please note…
- The majority of our funding is allocated to small, grassroots groups as they are often best placed to make a real difference with limited resources and often struggle to find funding. Please note that almost all the groups we fund have annual incomes of less than £250,000 and most are substantially smaller than this than this. More…
- We give priority to causes which are difficult to raise funds for. More…
- Our support ranges from a few hundred pounds to a maximum of £10,000 per project, although we reserve the right to adjust these amounts depending on the project.
- We look for projects that create change and aim to get to the route of the problem.
- We support non-violent direct action because we feel it plays an important part in bringing about positive social change. Non-violent direct action includes protests and demonstrations, non-cooperation and non-violent intervention. We will only consider supporting non-violent direct actions, i.e. those which have no intention of physically harming others or threatening to do so and do not involve any permanent damage to buildings or other property.
- We prefer to fund projects rather than core funding.
- We do not usually fund student expeditions, art projects, medical research, the promotion of religion or sponsor fundraising activities, such as balls, dinners and sponsored runs, unless there is a particular relevance to Lush and our values.
For more information on how we choose which charites to support please visit our Who We Like To Fund page.
If you think your organisation meets these criteria, please email me (rather than posting a comment here) on charitypot@lush.co.uk for an application form. For product donations, such as raffle prizes, please visit our product donations page.

Hi,
I am the Resident Involvement Manager at Poole Housing Partnership and we are a major provider of affordable social housing in the Poole area providing homes to over 10,000 people.
We are holding our annual Community Involvement event ‘Respectfest’ on 25th July 2009 at the Oakdale Community Centre,Dorchester Road,Poole, the theme of which is ‘Healthy Living and Lifestyles’
I was hoping that as a major employer and manufacturer of Environmental Friendly range of products you would be in a position to support the event by attending with a demonstration stand or providing give aways for distribution on the day.
Last years event attracted over 700 of our residents and was supported by over 40 organisations from the Poole area.There were also over 30 demonstrations and activities on the day.
Please contact me by e-mail if you are in a position to support our event.
Kind Regards,
Michael Lydon.
Set up by former carers some 10 years ago here in Poole, we have recently become a registered charity. Advocare – Caring for Carers seeks to support and empower carers and former carers to have a free voice. We give carers help and information, support and advocacy relevant to their unique situation.
We are totally self funding relying on donations, fundraising etc to fund our service.
We hope that Lush will help us in this with a donation towards our running costs, rest assured it will be greatly appreciated.
We also hope to set up an out of hours crisis line for carers as other help lines currently available only operate during office hours.
We do hope that Lush will feel that they are able to contribute to Advocare.
Thank you.
Hi Sandra,
Please email me on charitypot@lush.co.uk.
Many thanks!
It’s good to see a company that’s prepared to support non-violent direct action through its brand – and in a transparent way through charity giving at that.
So many businesses would want to stay away from this kind of involvement in the messier parts of the democratic process.
Well done for taking a bold step.
