African Community Project

African Community Project was set up by Garry Brooks, who has spent the last seven years volunteering in Zambia as a community developer. Through the Charity Pot, we supported their Petauke Community Forest project, which is situated in the Petauke District of Zambia, covering hundreds of square kilometres of once forested lands. The projects involves working with community schools to replant trees as well as helping to provide the schools with the resources they need to teach the children.

There are 50 community schools in the district, servicing about 10,000 pupils. The schools are community funded and there is a real need for education at a village level, especially for girls. One of the most basic requirements for the schools is blackboards and this has been a priority for the PCF project. We made a donation from the Charity Pot to buy over sixty blackboards for the schools.

When Garry received the Charity Pot grant he said “I am overwhelmed! Those community schools will have blackboards. The teachers, PTA’s, students and Traditional Leaders are so grateful to Lush for your funding. From the bottom of my heart, Thank You!”. That thank you is for each of you who bought Charity Pot over the last two years; a blackboard may not seem like much to us, but it makes the world of difference to the children attending the Petauke community schools.
