Animal Protection Agency

The Animal Protection Agency (APA) is the only European organisation campaigning solely to end the trade in wild animals as pets; a brutal and destructive trade which is driving many species rapidly towards extinction.

As a result of APA’s campaigns, there are very few wildlife markets left in the UK and the Agency has also helped to introduce a ban on importing wild birds for the pet trade. A fantastic success, especially considering APA is less than five years old.

apa-macaw-picAPA has now started working on some important educational projects and, thanks to our support, is currently producing a thought-provoking film aimed at primary school children. They made the made with 7-11 year olds in mind since this is the age that many children first think about getting a pet. It will be shown widely and will hopefully make many children think twice before buying an exotic pet, such as a parrot, lizard or snake. Our grant has also been used to pay for two part-time office assistants and a complete upgrade of all of APA’s computers.

Elaine Toland, APA’s director told us, “It’s a great thing that Lush has done for us and means that we can now do so much more to end the cruel confinement of wild animals as pets. Buying the Lush Charity Pot really does make a genuine difference where it matters!”

You can find out more about APA on their website: www.apa.org.uk.
