Butterfly Conservation

You may remember last year that we had a beautiful butterfly window in our stores. The money raised through Charity Pot during this period was donated to Butterfly Conservation. They provided the following report on how the funds were used.

Thanks to the generosity of hundreds of Lush customers purchasing a Charity Pot, this funding will be used to support several projects over the next 3 years.

Clearing Cotoneaster on the Isle of Mull
In Scotland the spread of non-native cotoneaster is a big problem on coastal habitats of the Slender Scotch Burnet on the Isle of Mull. Funds are being used to clear the cotoneaster and implement grazing to stop re-growth.

Looking after the Duke
The Duke of Burgundy butterfly may now be reduced to less than 100 sites, and many of these are small and vulnerable. It is one of our most rapidly declining species. A site dossier is being prepared as a prelude to a major project to save the species from extinction.

Funds are being used by our conservation staff to monitor the few sites where the butterfly can still be found in Wales and to give advice to landowners about managing these key places to improve habitat for this endangered species.

A big thank you to everyone who purchased a Charity Pot. With your help these beautiful insects will stand a far better chance of survival.
