Dinedor Hill Action

Dinedor Hill Action was formed back in 2002 to fight the Rotherwas access road and the associated plans for 300 new houses at Bullinghope, near Hereford. These two developments threatened to ruin an area of beautiful unspoilt countryside, including wooded hills and gentle river valleys full of wildlife.

The Rotherwas access road sadly went ahead, despite the fact that while building the new road the developers discovered a unique 4,000 year old monument, which is now buried under tarmac. However, Dinedor Hill Action were determined to continue their campaign against the new housing development. We donated funds from the Charity Pot to support this campaign.

In March 2007 Dinedor Hill Action challenged the council in the High Court over the proposed housing development. The Court Case took place in June 2008 and Dinedor Hill Action successfully proved that the housing development was proposed by the council solely as a way to get funding for the Rotherwas access road, leading to the industrial estate. The judge ruled that the Bullinghope housing was unlawful, and should not go ahead. This was not the end of the story because the housing developer decided to appeal against the decision. However, Dinedor Hill Action were told just a few days ago that they have finally won the case. This means that hey’ve not only stopped the housing development going ahead but made sure that future developments in the area follow the correct procedures. An amazing victory!

Rebecca Roseff, Secretary of Dinedor Hill Action wrote to say that “Lush’s donation was extremely helpful. It came at the beginning of our campaign so it was just at the right time and gave us a real boost and the impetus to carry on”.
