The Environmental Justice Foundation works with organisations in some of the world’s poorest countries to help communities to defend their environmental and human rights. As part of their work they campaign for sustainable and forced labour-free cotton and work to combat the human rights and environmental problems caused by shrimp farming. The vast amounts of water and pesticides used for cotton has a devastating impact on the environment, and often young children are forced to work in the cotton fields. Global demand for shrimp is devastating thousands of miles of coastal areas in poor countries, invaluable mangrove forests and wildlife have been lost, water and soil polluted and lives destroyed.

These environmental abuses have a massive impact on people’s health, homes and livelihoods. EJF works to empower these communities by giving them the training they need to stand up for themselves and stop the abuse. We gave them a grant to pay for camera equipment for their new global training centre.
Steve Trent, EJF’s Executive Director said “Lush’s support will enable us to make significant progress in setting up this important training centre so we can help vulnerable communities defend their environmental and human rights, protecting both people and planet from unethical and unsustainable exploitation of our shared natural environment”.
