In the first 2 years of the Charity Pot scheme, we donated 24% to humanitarian causes, such as health and human rights charities and overseas community projects.

Click on the list below to find out more about these organisation’s and the projects we supported.

Fresh Start Foundation (2009)
The Fresh Start Foundation was established in 2006 to support orphans and other vulnerable children in The Gambia, West Africa. FSF supports children between the ages of 7 to 18 years old, whom, due to poverty are vulnerable to abuse and exploitation. FSF’s main focus is to provide access to education and health care.

Biggin Hill Romania Group (2009)
The charity was founded in 1990 to relieve of poverty and sickness, advance education and improve care facilities for children living in institutions, for residents of Comanesti, Romania.

Women’s Work (2009)
Women’s Work was established in 2003 to provide respite, advice and support to female substance misusers involved in street sex work. Key services include delivery of street out-reach, drop-in, counselling, life skills workshops, signposting and advocacy, primarily to street sex workers in Derbyshire.

GapAid (2009)
This charity was formed after Ian and Pat French suffered the loss of their youngest daughter Georgia, who died whilst travelling in Peru in March 2007 during her Gap Year. Their aim is to ensure the safety of gappers whilst on their travels by empowering them with relevant and detailed information and teaching them to be more aware of the cultural, educational and environmental issues associated with the country they have chosen to travel in.

* Village Education Project Kilimanjaro * (2007 & 2009)
VEPK’s  mission is to enhance the quality of education in Tanzania, especially for village children, in order for future generations to become confident and responsible citizens.

reprieve1* Reprieve * (2008 & 2009)
Reprieve uses the law to enforce the human rights of prisoners, from death row to Guantánamo Bay.

Severn Hospice Telford (2008)
Our Telford store sold Charity Pot in aid of the Severn Hospice inTelford over a weekend in July 2008. The hospice cares for people who are living with complex and progressive illness. Their aim is to sustain the quality of their life and to provide relief from pain and other distressing symptoms.

West Dorset General Hospital (2008)
This hospital provides health care to the people of Dorset and South Somerset.

* Rockpool Candy * (2008)
Rockpool Candy, fibre activist, creates beautiful sculptures from discarded materials. Her Coral Collective Hospital Project aims to bring creativity, therapy and colour to The Royal Hospital, Belfast.

* Mamatsi Guli * (2008)
This small Georgian registered Charitable Union in Eastern Georgia began 2007. Their priority was to find village families to foster some of the many thousands of children still institutionalised in Georgian Orphanages which have not changed much since Soviet times.

africancommunityproject* African Community Project * (2008)
This project was set up by Canadian Garry Brooks after he spent time as a volunteer in Zambia in 2002. Ever since then he has have been traveling back and forth to Zambia, working with rural communities and Traditional Leaders, striving toward a better life for these people.

odanadi* Odanadi * (2008)
This social organisation based in Mysore (India), has been working for the rescue, rehabilitation, reintegration and empowerment of trafficked women and children. We gave them a grant to help with their educational programmes, such as purchasing new computers and building a library, as well supporting community exchange through raising environmental awareness .

refugee action logo jpgRefugee Action (2008)
Refugee Action is a national charity that works with refugees to build new lives in the UK. They have over 25 years’ experience in the reception, resettlement, development and integration of asylum seekers and refugees. We ran campaigns in our stores for Refugee Week in 2008 and 2009. Read more here. In 2008, we gave the national sales of Charity Pot for the week to Refugee Action.

jericho-boatyard* Jericho Community Boatyard * (2007 & 2008)
This community boat yard, home to 150 boating families, became under threat from developers who wanted to build luxury flats on the land.

julias-houseJulia’s House (2007)
Julia’s House is Dorset’s only hospice dedicated to children with life-limiting conditions. The majority of the children that we care for are unlikely to live beyond the age of 18.

abana * Abana * (2007)
This charity aims to relieve poverty and alleviate suffering in Rwanda by working in the areas of education and health.

kipunganiKipungani School Trust (2007)
This small-scale charity is effective, empowering and enriching. By carefully rebuilding and enlarging primary schools with the cooperation and support of their local communities, The Kipungani Schools Trust offers Kenyan children and their families a hand-up, not a hand-out.
