We supported this group of local residents who campaigned against plans for a road that would cut right across the Valley of the Wear, in the middle of Durham city. It road threatened to destroy ancient woodland and affect historic buildings that have been part of the city for 800 years.
Keith, who worked on the campaign, told us “Thanks, the funds were an excellent support to us. We now know that through the efforts of all concerned, and I suspect financial considerations, the Northern Relief Road has been shelved and our green valley will be left certainly for the next 20 years unspoilt”.
Here are two photographs of the area which have been saved.
