The Fox Project

craig2 smallThe Fox Project aims to rescue, treat and rehabilitate sick, injured and orphaned wildlife (especially foxes); to encourage greater tolerance and understanding of the fox and to counter the myths perpetuated by those with a vested interest in continued persecution. They carry out important research and provide advice, information and assistance to the public on humane, non-lethal alternatives to traditional ‘pest control’.

They contacted us in February, really worried about the extra strain they were experiencing due to four wildlife rescue groups recently closing in the area. They needed to upgrade their facilities and take on more staff but didn’t have the money to do so. Last year they took in 632 foxes including 237 sick, injured and orphaned cubs, thereby increasing their annual intake by 30%. As the 2009 cub season approached, they desperately needed funds to allow them to care for the increase in animals they expect to receive again in the coming year. We gave them a grant in February 2009 to help them get through a difficult period.

Craig smallTrevor from The Fox Project said “Thanks to Lush and a couple of other grant making trusts, The Fox Project was given breathing space this Spring in order to weather a scarily thin period where our very existence was threatened by recession and delays in receipt of several legacies. That period also coincided with the start of the busiest time in our annual intake – CUBS!

Since then, we have received a sizeable legacy and have done a considerable amount of in-house fundraising, and we can now guarantee getting through the cub season without running into financial probems. Our projected casualty intake this year is 250 fox cubs and 450 adult foxes. To date, we have received 135 cubs and 180 adults and are coping well”.
